Caviar — Art Advisors

Questions people ask us

Short answers to what people ask us most. Open any question to read the answer.

What does an art advisor do?

An art advisor helps you choose, buy and look after art with judgement you can trust. At Caviar that means looking slowly at each work, explaining why it matters, and taking care of everything around it: research, paperwork, shipping and installation.

Is Caviar a gallery or a shop?

Neither. Caviar is not a shop and does not push a stock. When we propose a work, we tell you why we chose it, and we tell you when we represent the artist.

Do I need a large budget to start collecting?

No. Many good collections begin with one work on paper or a small piece by an artist you have met. What matters is that the work means something to you. We help at every budget.

How do your fees work?

The first conversation is free. After that, every fee is agreed in writing before we start: a fixed fee for a second look or a collection review, or a fee on the purchase when we accompany an acquisition.

Can you help me buy from a Spanish artist if I live abroad?

Yes. We select with you, deal with the artist or gallery, and arrange the paperwork, transport and installation with professionals we trust.

Can you look at a work I already own?

Yes. We look at it with you, research what can be known about it and tell you plainly what we think. If you need a certified valuation for insurance or tax, we tell you so and point you to the right appraiser.

Where do you work?

Internationally. We work in English and Spanish, and we travel to see art in person, wherever it is.
